The most important takeaway from the four months I spent in Southeast Asia was an understanding and appreciation for the vastly diverse lives lived by people around the world. Having spent my entire life in western countries, living in Asia presented life from an entirely new point of view.

Throughout the beautiful green hills of Northern Thailand are many small hill tribe villages. These villages are inhabited by villagers from several different tribes, including the Lahu, Ahka, and Hmong people. Strong heritage and culture runs deep in the hill tribe villages, where day-to-day life seems a lot simpler than in the modern cities of Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

While studying in Chiang Mai, I had the opportunity to visit several hill tribe villages in order to create photo and video content for a media internship with USAC Study Abroad. This is what I saw and learned.
